Welcome to the..........
A non-profit organization for the furthering of folk and decorative art.
Northwest Toleliners . . . is the name of a group of Tole and Decorative painters and a chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters.
Tole and decorative painting is defined as a "method" of painting designs on any object, to decorate or make a picture. Application follows an orderly procedure and a pattern is customarily used to apply the design. A high degree of success is achieved without academic training or inherent drawing ability. All that is required is a love of painting and the desire to learn. Decorative painting is a diverse art form that utilizes a variety of techniques and media to decorate both functional and non-functional surfaces. In recent years, "tole painting" and "decorative painting" have been used interchangeably.
One of the purposes of the Northwest Toleliners is to stimulate an interest in tole and decorative painting. Each year the month of October is recognized as Tole Month. If you have an interest, please attend one of our meetings which are held at:
Shoreline Historical Museum
747 North 175th Avenue
Seattle, Washington
--One block west of Aurora Avenue North--
We meet at 1:30 p.m. on the second Saturday of January, March, May, July, September, and November. The doors open at 1:00 p.m. for social hour prior to our meetings. Please call prior to a meeting date if you are planning to attend. Our meeting schedule is subject to change. If there is a change it will be announced in the newsletter of that particular month. The programs for the meetings include demonstrations by experienced teachers. If the front door is locked . . . Please knock loudly!!!
We publish a membership and business roster and a newsletter. Among our members are many qualified teachers. Many of these teachers own their own shops where lessons are given and supplies are available.
